Why did the chicken cross the road?

Why did the egg cross the road?  It wanted to be first.

Why did the coward cross the road?  She was a chicken.

Why did the rooster cross the road?  To get to the chicken.

Why did the farmer cross the road?  It was almost lunch time.

Why did the paramedics cross the road?  It wasn't a crosswalk.

. . . I amuse myself

  1. I definitely had to read it a second time to get the narrative structure, because I thought to myself, "these aren't very good one-liners." Thanks for the post, it's good to see something from you again!

    1. I feel somewhat like I've fallen off the face of the internet. Part of it is that I've just been so weary and feel so beaten down by the whole thing--and part of it is just the way I function: I go in waves, slowly building up until thoughts spill over and then having a dry period.

Thinklings does have two books coming out this year, so I edited and formatted those and did various work there. So I'm not disappeared entirely!

Really, though, I should write up some of the characters who come to the bank. People are so weird. . . .

There's the lady (I'll call her Jane, which isn't her real name) who's so obsessed with the color purple that she puts it before her name: Purple Jane. She uses "purple" as a positive adjective in every sentence. She'd like you to have a very purple day and take care of your purple body and be purple blessed. She wears purple and decorates her car with purple and uses a purple pen and is thrilled if you give her purple anything or say purple back to her. She lately dyed her hair purple. She just adores purple and she adores people (excuse me, purple people), and everyone I've met likes her because she's very purple *nice* and wants everyone to be purple happy. She once showed us something a group of people from another business made her -- a purple picture celebrating Purple Jane. When any of us help her with her transactions, she has us write our names down on her envelope, so she can list in her purple journey everyone who was nice to her that day.

I save my purple paperclips for her. We all do.

    2. Ah, sorry to hear that life's been getting to you. I can definitely relate to internet fatigue, but I also find it a fantastic source of entertainment. What better way to spend an evening than staying up late by yourself looking at memes?

I kid. I've really only survived the past year by going and visiting people, for no other reason than seeing them. Strange new times for me!

Thanks for the story about the purple lady :) Purple Jane would make a fantastic kid's book if you ever felt like switching genres.

Where are you at these days? How are you faring these latter days of COVID life?
